My Record Collection
I’ve recently started to collect records based on their covers. I’ve managed to find 3 great ones so far. The first one I foundĀ and bought for $1. This one is featured in A History of Graphic Design by Phillip Meggs (third edition, p.333).
It was designed by Rudolph deHarak, a self-taught graphc designer who loved swiss design. This is part of a series of album covers for Westminster Records. He wanted to “Evoke a conceptual, mental image of the music’s structure.” I’d love to collect the whole series. I’d really like to find some of the book covers he designed
I’ll keep an eye out!
I was really excited about finding this, and it inspired me to look for more.
The next two I found at the same time. The first one is called “Your Keys to Success.”
A training manual by Olivetti Underwood. It says that there is an “Introduction by George Hossfield, ten times world’s champion typist.” (woo!)
The last one in my collection is called “Hymns and Carols Early American,” and is available in 3 different jacket covers. This one is the psychedelic series. The other options include the Classical series, or the Popular series. The jacket says, “These valuable printed works of art on RE-JAK-IT are suitable for framing to beautify your home.” Which is good, because thats exactly why I bought it. I look forward to my next find.
